How to merge Google+ with Gmail contacts

New Google+ contacts are instantly imported to your Gmail "Other contacts", including first name, photo and Google+ profile URL. They are even merged with existing Gmail contacts, if you already had the Google profile URL, Google+ profile URL or Gmail address in the existing contact info.

Be careful:
If you delete Google+ contacts, the change is not applied to Gmail. But if you clean up your Gmail contacts, the contacts will be removed from your Google+ circles also. (Just happened to me. :-( - I'll take the chance and build up my circles using a new strategy: Relevant people only.)

If you sync Gmail to your smartphone and circle lots of people on G+, your memory will be full within days.
